About The Downtown Newark Partnership

Are you the owner of a business on East or South Main Street?

We are Newark, Delaware. We are Delaware’s college town, where new faces and historic places combine to provide our visitors with diverse experiences around every corner. We are rich in cultural offerings that enliven downtown. We are an eclectic blend of businesses. We feed not only the mind but the body. In a place where hip meets historic, there are over 60 restaurants constantly providing visitors with new flavors and shops featuring unique gifts for any occasion. We are the culture and the class. We are the future and the past. We are the best of both a college town and a hometown.

What is the DNP?

The Downtown Newark Partnership is a private/public partnership dedicated to the aesthetic, economic, cultural and social enhancement of downtown Newark. The Partnership has created a unique environment in which the City of Newark, businesses, residential communities, and the University of Delaware can work together toward a common goal: the ongoing enhancement of downtown Newark with mutual benefits. The DNP participates in the Downtown Delaware Program, within the Division of Small Business, Development and Tourism, and adheres to the National Main Street Program approach to downtown revitalization.

A policy board governs the Partnership. The Board provides direction to the Partnership's committees, and charts the course for downtown enhancement. The Committees bring together leaders from broad range of industries to ensure that downtown Newark remains an active spirited place to live and do business.

Under the leadership of the Board of directors, the Downtown Newark Partnership has been designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a National Main Street Community since 2001.

The Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers, Municipal Building, 220 South Main Street. All Downtown Newark Partnership meetings are open to the public.
